Conor Mcgregor 🇮🇪
A few strategies Mcgregor used to gain the fame, money and fortune that he did. Reading time: 6 minutes
Hey 👋🏼
We just watched Mcgregor Forever on Netflix and thought we’ed share some of our learnings
Let’s get right into it 👇
P.S. Don’t want to read the whole thing? Just read the TLDR at the bottom of the email 🤫
Who the $#%@ is Mcgregor?
Conor Mcgregor. Mike Blake/Reuters
I reckon that you guys have heard of him but here, I’ll let google do some talking :
Conor McGregor is an Irish professional mixed martial artist who has won several championships in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He is one of three fighters in UFC history to win the featherweight title and one of nine to hold the lightweight title. He is also the only fighter in UFC history to hold two titles simultaneously.
So he’s a pretty big deal in the UFC and has several accomplishments under his belt (or on his belt)…
So what strategies and tactics did he use to fight his way to become the face of the UFC?
Psychology
His ALL OR NOTHING attitude
“We’re not here to take part. We’re here to take over.”
Conor Mcgregor
From what we could find, Mcgregor always had this mentality.
When he wants to achieve something, he becomes obsessed with it. He focuses his attention laser on that goal and overwhelms it with hard work and determination
And because of this mindset, he always tries to become the best at what he chooses to do.
Obsession
Obsession is often looked down upon. But it is one of the things that seperates the ORDINARY from the EXTRAORDINARY
When Mcgregor was a child, he was obsessed with football and he even wanted to be a professional football player. During his teenage years, he took up MMA and soon became obsessed with the sport.
Obsession helps you push through distraction and challenges. Motivation (or even being disciplined) is no longer needed when you’re obsessed with what you do.
Find that thing that you’re obsessed with and become the best in the world at it.
Confidence/Ego
If you’re going to take away 1 thing from this edition, it probably should be this.
Mcgregor has always been extremely confident in his abilities as a fighter. Even to the point of overconfidence, leading to him losing fights.
This belief he has lead him to challenge fighters who may have been “out” of his league at the time.
A few tips to help you get Mcgregor confidence :
Singleness of Purpose (Highly recommend this)
When Mcgregor was still on the come up, every iota of his being went towards pursuing MMA.
This concentration of his energy on a singular goal made him a phenomenal fighter and we certainly must learn how to concentrate our energy towards a single purpose.
This, paired with obsession will help you overwhelm obstacles in your path without using your willpower or motivation.
Showmanship
Well, you shouldn’t try this at home.
Especially at the start of his career, Mcgregor was a master Showman, constantly breaking the internet with his trash-talk and polarizing personality.
Showmen around the world have different characters and there’s no one pill for everyone…
Except for Confidence
Confidence is a massive part of great showmanship, so we recommend you take a look at the guide above.
Visualisation
Mcgregor visualised everything from the car he would be driving, to the walkouts and even to the fights themselves.
Visualisation sounds fake and all woo-woo but trust us, it helps you with pretty much anything you want to do extraordinarily.
Of course, it would take you a bit of time to start seeing results but you will get there.
Thank me later.
Let’s end this off with some quotes by Mcgregor
“Doubt is only removed by action. If you’re not working then that’s where doubt comes in.”
“There’s no talent here, this is hard work. This is an obsession. Talent does not exist, we are all equals as human beings. You could be anyone if you put in the time. You will reach the top, and that’s that. I am not talented, I am obsessed.”
“At the end of the day, you’ve gotta feel some way. So why not feel unbeatable? Why not feel untouchable?”
“I am cocky in prediction. I am confident in preparation. But I am always humble in victory or defeat.”
“I’m not going to get somewhere and say, ‘OK, I’m done.’ Success is never final; I’ll just keep going. The same way as failure never being fatal. Just keep going. I’m going to the stars and then past them.”
The TLDR;
Overwhelm your obstacles with pure effort and hard work
You either have everything, or you have nothing.
Become obsessed with what you do for the best quality of work
Visualize the end goal everyday
