    Steve Jobs’ Persuasion Secret

Steve Jobs is one of the greatest men who have walked this world. He founded 3 companies, one of which - Apple, is the largest company in the world in regards to market cap.

Obviously, there had to be an attribute about him that made him this great. And after some research, we found his secret and we studied it. Below, we share why he’s so successful.

Steve Jobs’ Reality Distortion Field

RDF is a term coined by one of Jobs’ coworkers to describe the effects his charisma had on the developers working on the Macintosh project.

Scroll all the way down to get some actionable advice you can directly apply to your own life!

Here’s a short description :

“Steve Jobs’ reality distortion field was his refusal to accept limitations and challenges that came in way of his ideas and to believe in himself that any difficulty can be overcome. The field is strong enough to convince others that they could achieve the impossible. He used the power of RDF to change the world around him and make Apple what it is today. Anybody can activate their reality distortion field and see the realities changing.

Now, that you understand what this superpower can do, lets get onto our analysis of the strategies and tactics Jobs used to create this field.

How he did it:

After a bit of research, we came up with the following ways for you to project a reality distortion field :

Supreme Confidence :

Yeah its the unsexy answer that everyone already knows but this is possibly the biggest factor. Without being confident in your product or idea, nobody will or should trust you.

Passion, but different?

Throughout his whole life, Steve Jobs was known to be easily angered and had a temper. He would often lash out at his colleagues and break them to the point of no return.

But what most people don’t realize is this aggression attributed to Jobs actually came from passion for product. Jobs knew what he wanted, and did everything it took to get his way.

He certainly was a perfectionist and he was passionate about Apple’s products being the best and always being revolutionary.

Persistence:

Another unsexy answer but one that is very common amongst those who have accomplished great things.

Steve Jobs had laser like focus. When he set his mind on something, he did everything it took to get it done.

Unshakable Belief:

Steve Jobs had brilliant ideas (which is, of course, another aspect which we must consider).
But his belief in his ideas made all the different.

The reason why he made the decisions he did (including the screaming at colleagues) was because he always believed that his idea was the only way forward.

This supreme confidence coupled in the belief that the idea is the only way forward for the company made him an unstoppable force to be reckoned with.

Communication

Saving one of the biggest ones for the last.

Steve Jobs was an incredible communicator throughtout his life but two things set him apart from most people:

    • His body language and eye contact :

Steve Jobs had a certain style which he developed while growing up. He learnt to stare at people without blinking and speaking (Trying to seem creepy) but just a few seconds later, he would speak quickly and with passion.

This style set him apart and gave him this certain aura. Of course, eye contact is the main takeaway here, but maybe try staring into people’s eyes without blinking?

During his speeches, a big part that set him up for success is his body language. We noticed that he has very dynamic body language while presenting. At one moment, he seems very open and articulate but a few moments later, he closes up.

We believe that this “interesting” body language helped him keep attention.

    • Language

Steve Jobs, because of his passion, used big and fascinating words to describe Apple’s products. You’ve probably seen him use words like Magnificent, unbelievable, incredible, revolutionary, phenomenal, Extraordinary, remarkable and more.

These words have a great impact on the listeners and readers and certainly do capture attention, which is fantastic.

Conclusion

Steve Jobs, incredibly skilled individual who possessed a rare power.

How do you emulate his RDF?

  • Genuinely believe in your product and present it so.

  • Be passionate and aggressive with your ideals and ideas.

  • Believe completely in your ideas and them working out for the better of the entire group.

  • Make sure to use tons of hand gestures and dynamic body language while speaking.

  • Use big, expressive words like Magnificent, unbelievable, incredible,

    etc.

Here are some extra tips and notes you may find useful:

  1. Constantly take pauses to think while speaking. This helps to encapsulate attention and keep others on their toes.

  2. When discussing with a group, you’re working with them, not against them. Keep this in mind and take the side of the group because you’re working together with them, not against them. and never get offended by personal questions.

  3. Turn your vision, into your crowd’s vision by finding a smooth speech pathway.

  4. Use the sly Steve Jobs smile. (We swear by this)

  5. Always connect your argument to the larger picture.

  6. Use a ton of hand gestures while speaking (Don’t be afraid to move around and speak casually).

  7. Use dynamic body language (Stay open at most times but close down when trying to think and when agreeing with other people.

  8. Make direct eye contact with the audience or friends when making a point. However, make sure to keep your gaze soft and not stare.

  9. Always deliver with confidence. If you’re not confident in your product, no one will be.

  10. Sell the future and what everything could be, not what it is right now.

  11. When motivating a team or group, remember : People do the impossible, when they don’t realize that it’s impossible.

  12. Remember to always use big words that make everything seem 100x better like : Magnificent, unbelievable, incredible, revolutionary, phenomenal, Extraordinary, remarkable, etc.
